Reach a Hand Uganda (RAHU), in partnership with the Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) and SautiPlus Media Hub, hosted the inspiring Imara Girls Festival at Kati Kati Grounds, Lugogo Bypass, Kampala, on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
The event, themed “Invest in Her, Unleash Her Potential,” was dedicated to celebrating women and girls who have used their voices, creativity, and innovation to overcome challenges. It also aimed to gather support for the establishment of the Imara Women’s Centre, a 25-year initiative focused on advancing women’s rights and empowerment.
In recognition of the International Day of the Girl Child, the festival featured a range of activities, including interactive games, music, motivational talks, and entertainment. During a power talk session, Kyobusingye Mary, Senior Communications Officer at Movit Products, stressed the importance of investing in girls’ education and empowerment to improve their social and economic standing.
Officials from FOWODE also emphasized the importance of nurturing and mentoring young girls to help them develop into future leaders. They highlighted that early guidance and strong role models equip girls with the confidence and skills needed to take on leadership roles, benefiting not only the individuals but also the advancement of women’s rights and leadership in society.
The event wrapped up with captivating performances by an array of talented musicians such as Jackie Chandiru, Lillian Mbabazi, Naava Grey, Laika, Ava Peace, Nina Rose, and more. The energetic atmosphere was further boosted by performances from the Wembly Mo. Foundation, making the festival an unforgettable and empowering experience.
