Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) held its first ever virtual graduation ceremony on Saturday which marked the 27th in sequence since the Tech and Science driven University was established.
Under the theme “Promoting, Furthering Impactful Research”, this year’s graduation marked a milestone for the University as a record 1,269 graduated in different programmes. 57 graduated with Diplomas, 1035 scooped Bachelor’s degrees, 153 with Master’s while 24 bagged PhDs (Doctorate of Philosophy).
Addressing the graduates, the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestino Obua urged the fresh graduates to avoid the “comfort zone” as it will keep them unproductive and motionless.
“Dear Graduates… To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did. Stay Clear of your comfort zone because it will keep you stagnant” Prof. Obua said.
Also in attendance of the Virtual ceremony was Minister of State for Primary Health Care, Hon. Joyce Moriku Kaducu who advised the graduates to create jobs and not just go about looking for them.
“To all the graduates please don’t look for jobs, make yourself relevant and create one to make a difference in society” reads an extract from Hon. Moriku’s speech.
The overall best student from this year’s graduation cohort, Mr Jimmy Trevor Segujja scooped a 4.9 CGPA in Bachelors of Information Technology programme, the highest ever in the University’s records.
