The Guild President of Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mr. Kenneth Agaba Amponda and a group of fellow students under the Amponda Cares Team have donated food and other necessities to the community around the university in Mukono to help ordinary people overcome the challenges that COVID-19 came with.
The donation that took place on 10th July, 2021 had items of relief which included food items like posho, beans, macaronis, and sugar. They also gave in clothes, shoes, scholastic materials and sanitary pads.
The items were collected by the said Amponda Cares Team which involves fellow students from hostels around the campus and the halls of residence in the university during the Easter Intake. The team went ahead to contribute money towards purchasing more food items since, like they found out, people need more of food than the clothes during the pandemic.
“As the 23rd Guild Government, our manifesto also provides for community outreach to make an impact in our society as a Christian University. We did Community cleaning along all the towns in the University neighborhood like Buguju, Wandegeya and hostel feeder roads. Thus, this time we planned on reaching out to the Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) under Amponda Cares and Upendo Mikono Charity Foundation of Mr Mukuru Herbert who did good guidance and an inspirational job.” Agaba Amponda told Campus Bee.
The Amponda Cares Foundation is not new on the scene as they have continuously been engaging in activities to help out the less privileged people in community.
“In the previous lockdown, we provided food relief to over 500 students in hostels of Banda, and Mukono. Thus, this time, we looked at the PWDs within Mukono because, we have been trying our best to improve their standards of living since the Easter Semester began.”Amponda added.
He thanked the Students Community for giving in what they could and welcoming the members of the foundation whenever they reached out to their doors seeking for their contributions.
“May the good Lord bless you for being humble and generous students. Otherwise, let’s continue to observe sops and prevent ourselves from contracting the COVID-19 virus.” He added.
