Watoto Church downtown recently held a KARA on the 11th of March, 2020. Kara is an event that brings university and tertiary students from around Kampala together totally about different topics such as relationships, identity, and purpose.
The theme for this KARA was ‘You can Win‘ which was basically ironing out isuues to do with success. The session began with a jam packed praise and worship session and later a panel discussion was opened. The moderators were Mbithi Miracle and Michael Abili, both 3rd year students at Makerere University and UCU Kampala campus respectively.
The panelists included Mr. Dunstan Kisuule who’s the Co-founder and CEO Y-Save, Ms. Eva Abwola who is a 2nd generation owner of Black Abba, a fashion store with outlets in Kampala and Gulu and Dr. Barbara Ofwono who is the founder of Victorious schools.
From the panel discussion, it was evident that success was redefined for the young adults as knowing what God created you to do and excelling at it. For example, Dr. Ofwono mentioned that God called her to nurture children and that’s why she focused on education, even though many people consider it as a profession that is not as well paying as others.
Mr. Kisuule also mentioned that he learnt how to handle finances at a young age and that is why he ventured into Y-Save, even after having studied civil engineering at the University. Ms. Abwola encouraged the young adults to set goals, meet them and then set higher goals because it is through this that she has managed to get to where she is.
However, true success is not only about making money because it entails succeeding in every aspect of your life. So in regards with marriage, Mr Kisuule told the young adults to wait on God and find out what God is speaking to them and he also told of how he got married about 15 years after he had left school.
The young people were also reminded to stop comparing themselves with their more successful peers but to live their lives earnestly. The next KARA will be on 22nd April.
