The newly sworn-in Kyambogo University Electoral Commission on Tuesday, 1st March held the institution’s nominations for presidential candidates ahead of elections scheduled for 9th this month.
The exercise was held at the university’s students’ center where candidates from various political parties went to verify their credentials before being allowed to hold campaigns.
Prior to the nomination exercise, Kyambogo’s National Unity Platform (NUP) Chapter declared Mandwa Alijah as its flagbearer. Mandwa later stormed the Students Centre for nominations. Just like other candidates, Mandwa was only allowed to enter with three other people following the commission’s guideline of allowing a team of only four people from each camp to access the mentioned venue.
Mandwa vowed to fight what he termed as dictatorship at the university once elected as the institution’s next guild president.
The nomination exercise was characterized by jubilations, loud music amid tight security at the Students Center.
Other nominated candidates include; Ssekanjajo Masuudi (People Power) Amwesiga Morgan from NRM, Serge Tumwine from FDC, among other candidates.
