Kyambogo students were today morning disappointed by the electoral commission’s decision to kick off this year’s guild elections late, contrary to what was agreed upon. According to the program earlier announced by EC, the elections were slated to kick off at exactly 7:00am but some polling stations had not started voting by 10:00am.
“These people are not serious, some of us came here at 6am thinking the elections will start in time. I have not yet voted up to now.” said Birungi Dorothy, a Bachelor of Science Technology – Physics student.

Some of the polling stations visited by Campus Bee had no voters by 10:15am, however, the polling officials and equipment were already in place.
With the help of Uganda Police officers deployed at polling stations, the elections are so far going on peacefully despite several complaints from students following delayed kick off.

Polling stations like North Hall and West End are slowly picking up in terms of voters’ population as an average number of students were spotted lining up to vote for their next guild president.
