Makerere University Red Cross Chapter has partnered with Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) to run to the rescue of the needy in the neighboring community of Katanga, one of the slums in Kampala.
The chapter organized a community outreach through which it educated locals about the signs and symptoms and the preventive measures of the viral Ebola disease which is currently affecting Mubende and Kassanda district. Locals also received scholastic materials such as books, pencils, pens and sanitary pads.
The outreach that was honoured by Dr Abbas Agaba (Secretary General AAYC) was conducted on October 21, bringing together nearly all guild aspirants in the 88th Makerere University guild race among whom was Alionzi Lawrence Dangote, Namirembe Blessious and Julius Tukamushaba.
Katanga community service school, St Rozalia Kindergarten and junior school and Wandegeya Muslim primary and nursery school were the main beneficiaries.
Dr Nansozi Nuwanga, the patron Makerere Red Cross chapter and Executive Director Julius Nyerere leadership center says giving back to the community resonates with all that Makerere University and Julius Nyerere leadership center stand for.
“The idea of giving back as we build for the future was resonated with everything that Makerere and Julius Nyerere leadership center is about,” she said.
