The situation in Wandegeya and Makerere borders on the dire.
After information reached students that Besigye Kizza had been arrested and therefore stopped from addressing the masses of Makerere. Pandemonium broke out. Angry like bees in the dry season, the chanting students resolved to force through the release of the proverbial “people’s president.”
Tearing anything yellow, and consequently setting it ablaze. The students stormed the main gate in bid to go to Wandegeya police cell where Besigye was allegedly being held.
Tear gas was fired to keep them at bay, the defiant students kept pushing the ordinary anti- riot police force till it retreated.
Rocks started flying through the air, the rally venue lay deserted. Just a few students stayed by, their hopes lost.
Police retreated before out of the blue, a van filled with baton wielding red beret wearing fellows jumped out: the military police, sent the visibly scared students scampering for dear life. Military police, are known to wantonly whip protesters.
Outside University, a man has reportedly died from his gun wounds. Scores have been injured.
Wandegeya, a busy neighbourhood of Makerere is reeking of gun smoke, tear gas! Students are defiant and angry!
