The newly elected Makerere University guild president Were Salim was yesterday afternoon sworn in as the 2018/19 guild president at the University’s main hall. Were emerged victorious after defeating 14 other competitors who were all interested in becoming Makerere University’s next guild president.
Before addressing the students, Were introduced his Father Rashid Were who showed his gratitude to Makerere University students for putting trust in his son, “Thank you very much the entire community of Makerere University for putting trust in my son Were Salim Papa, I want to assure you that I know him from A-Z.” Rashid told Makerere students.
Papa Were later kicked off his first speech as guild president and the first thing he promised was to fire any ceremonial ministers that fail to deliver, “First and foremost, to the cabinet ministers who think that they have just been appointed as ceremonial bodies, I appoint and disappoint. Mine is all about serving the students’ cause and when it comes to that, we shall not relate” Were warned.
The fresh guild president later revealed that he intends to do better than his predecessors together with his newly appointed cabinet, “It is not that we as the students’ body do not have problems, but is there the will to do better? And not just to do better, but is there the will to do better than our predecessors? “ Were noted.
Were also revealed that the people he appointed on his cabinet was not a rush decision, but it took him time to decide, and he therefore has faith in them. Among the cabinet members include Kokoi Fiona (Vice President), Ndamwesigwa Ian (Prime Minister), Kisuule Rehema (Deputy Prime Minister), Kasawuli Simon (Minister for academic affairs among others.
