Last week, medical students termed the new internship policy for doctors set by the Ministry of Health as unfair. Many interns and medical students referred to it as an unfair policy which seeks to make doctors slaves of the Government.
Earlier today, students of Kampala International University [KIU] Western campus Ishaka Bushenyi joined the medical interns that striked against the new policy that is to make them work without pay for the Government.
“A broke intern is harmful to your health, all interns must be paid and on time. We shall not accept this kind of slavery in our own country,” most of the students argued.
The new policy which states that sponsored medical students will only get facilitation/allowances during internship if they accept to do two years mandatory public service in district hospitals while private sponsored students will do a one year internship with no pay angered many medical students in the country.
