Yesterday at about 11am in the morning as many Akamwesi residents got the best of the usher into the weekend and had chopped lectures, a surprise ambush befell them as Police rounded off the premises in a bid to nab drug abusers.
A crackdown operation lead by the OC MUBS, Collins Kyasimire police post was aimed at fishing out different students in possessions of ecstasy drugs, weapons and illegal possessions.
Police checked room by room to ensure that the Hostel is cleared of all drug related issues. Prior to the ambush, a notice had been hanging on almost every floor of the hostel by the hostel management warning against the use and possession of these things.
Police managed to only arrest one resident who was found with a bagful of weed as the others that had been tipped off immediately fled.
The checkup started at around 11am and lasted about 2 hours throwing the entire hostel community into a frenzy mode.
Some residents intimated to Campusbee that however much police has ambushed the students, there are more that do weed and drugs and that the vice is not about to stop anytime soon.
Brenda (Not Real names) a resident of Akamwesi on the C-floor stresses that; “there are many students doing weed and it’s no secret here anymore. Some even do it openly in the presence of others and they have been here for a while.” She added: “Obviously police guys are dumb. You can’t raid a hostel during day and expect to find guys pushing joints. That’s blonde.”
However, the office of the Custodian affirms that more crackdowns will be done without prior notice and ensure that the vice is rubbished out.
We at Campusbee strongly condemn such acts and call upon students to desist from drugs to have a better life.
