After yesterday’s heated meeting where MAK students led by the care taker government decided to forcefully open campus today, MAK’s situation has gotten alarming.
Earlier on, there had been a threatening call made to a one Derrick who publicized the meeting’s invites on Facebook. This call that was said to be from Kireka police was warning students of how the meeting would be dispersed by police if it was held, these stone hearted intellectuals went ahead with the meeting nonetheless.
Immediately after the meeting, an arrest of the prominent Lumumba hall chairman Gerald Kamana was made after Lumumba residents stormed the hall trying to mobilise for today. He is still having an iron bared view of life at CPS.
For the whole of today, campus halls where students were to force their way into are currently besieged by anti riot police trucks with their redundant officers in slumber land. Here’s how the situation is around different parts of MAK
Lumumba & Mary Stuart Halls
This has been and is still under tight surveillance by 2 police trucks. Currently deserted.
Mitchell Hall
This pending Bazaar host is currently under surveillance of two police trucks. Some students are seen inside the closed hall and some renovations are also going on inside.
University Hall
Some students are seen inside the closed hall too being guarded by relaxing officers in the comfort of News papers. They are probably having their weekly News paper reviews.
Guild Chambers
Been closed since morning. Being next to police, presumably all eyes on it.
Nkrumah & Nsibirwa Halls
Not under police scrutiny. Deserted though with their behind entrances open.
Livingstone Hall
Open with a wedding reception being held in the compound. On guard by two police motorcycles
Staff Canteen Below Mitchell Hall
Different patches of students discussing from the restaurant tables. Some in consultative moods as some senior academic associates are attending to them.
Faculty of IT
some students reading their books under the comfort of tree shades.
That’s the current calm situation @MAK. In preparation for #RedMonday, could the arrest of Gerald Kamana be the reason for the slow down in the Action that the students proposed to take today?
“The police doesn’t know that it’s adding salt to the 2 week bleeding wound that we have failed to nurse. We will demand for the release of our innocent Kamana as we also demand for our right to Education. It’s gonna be Bloody on Monday” said an Anonymous student who claimed to be in #RedMonday moods already.
As these events unfold as a result of the government’s fake promises to Public University Non teaching staff, Keith Muhakanizi the permanent secretary in the Ministry of finance has officially declared that the funds (56bn) in question are not available. While being hosted on capital FM today morning, Muhakanzi who was ordered by the president to disburse the salary enhancements and arrears said that the money was used in the South Sudan Rescue Mission.
Campus Bee will keep you posted.
