MUKONO: It has been said and proven over time that Uganda Christian University students are too weak or meek to protest unjust administrative decisions, however, on Monday, that jinx has been broken.
U.C.U volunteers who are also students of the university have put up a protest, non-violent at the moment which they demand payment for the work they did. The supposed work here is the performance at the opening and closing ceremonies of the recently concluded Eastern Africa University Games.
The volunteers are said to have practiced for an average of four weeks before the event without getting payment or accommodation even after school closed. School authorities are alleged to have deliberately delayed payment till this moment probably in a bid to totally avoid paying the students who put on one of the greatest performances ever.
“Some of us never got accreditation cards, accomodation or a T-shirt and now this little 20,000/= they also want to deny us..” one of the angry volunteers who pleaded anonymity said. Also, there was a rift for two hours yesterday before the closing ceremony.
