The Uganda police has failed to increase the number of officers deployed at Kyambogo University.
This this comes after the University’s request for more policemen at the area’s police post from the current 25 to at least 120 officers following the termination of their contract with Savannah Security Services Ltd.
However, the latest we have obtained indicates that the Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth Ochola has declined Kyambogo’s request to increase the number of Police officers citing limited man-power in the force.
Prof. Elly Katunguka, the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor said the University contracts Committee declined to renew the contract of the private security firm in what he termed as “unsatisfactory services”.
Prof. Katunguka also added the IGP advised them to look for another security firm that will be vetted and approved by police.
According to Prof. Katunguka and the University’s Chief Security Officer, Philbert Waibi, they are currently working with Uganda Police Force to secure a competent security firm that will provide better services at the university.
The indirect move was executed by the Kyambogo University management which contacted the IGP to upgrade the Kyambogo police post to a fully fledged police station that would in turn give 41 security guards to effectively cover the institution.
