Yesterday 12th January, the Makerere University guild, through its Guild Information Minister, Muhwezi Joshua Label announced a press conference which was to take place today at 9 am at the guild offices.
The presser was intended to address the media and the whole public about what they termed as “games” behind the gowns of the graduands. The graduation ceremony is starting tomorrow but the biggest number of graduands have not received their gowns due to a contractor’s delay in the delivery from China.
News from the presser that was scheduled for today indicates that the police didn’t even allow the press conference to begin as they camped at the venue hours before the commencing of the conference.
“The police didn’t even wait for the press conference to start as it started by manhandling the vice president, information and gender minister and all those that were protesting against the delay of the gowns. It also sent away journalists from different media houses that had come to cover the press conference.” Our source at Makerere intimated to Campus Bee.
As per now, some students are still at the institution demanding for their gowns by all means.
