Police have today impounded a Makerere Univeristy vehicle belonging to the instituion’s secretary. This, Campus Bee has learnt, was after High Court issued an attachment order for court bailiffs to impound cars belonging to the university’s Vice- chancellor, his deputy, University Secretary and the Bursar.
The order was issued to enable the bailiffs auction the vehicles to recover money amounting up to Shs 56 million in unpaid legal fees to Counsel Steven Ssenkeezi Ssali.
This is a development from earlier events in 2014 , when the University agreed to pay Ssenkeezi the said money as fees for representing Fatuma Nakatude and Uzobia Baine who were University employees challenging the procedure through which University top management attain their positions.
Makerere University agreed to settle the matter out of court and to meet legal costs incurred by the two plaintiffs which wasn’t fulfilled.
This prompted Ssenkeezi under his firm Ssali and Company Advocates to institute execution proceedings against the University.
Today the executioners managed to attach one of the vehicles , a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UAJ 667 X belonging to David Kahundha Muhwezi the University Secretary after it was intercepted at Planning House in Kampala .
It was driven to parking yard of the High Court in Kampala where it is currently parked as the search for the other 3 remaining cars is ongoing.
Campus Bee will keep you posted.
