Unidentified thugs broke into the Makerere University mosque offices on Tuesday morning and made off with two computers. Preliminary reports indicate that the said thugs just took off with the computers and left the premises without stealing any cash.
However, according to Enock Abeine, the Chief Security Officer of the university, they also made away with shs. 60,000.
This explains why (when contacted) the chairman Makerere Muslim Students Association (MUMSA) Umar Senyonjo said,
“Probably the people who broke into our offices seemed to be interested in the computers meaning that they are interested in some information but what information?”
The Makerere University Imam, Sam Ahmed Ssentongo, says he noticed the theft at around 6:00am of that morning when he went to switch off the security lights of the mosque.
According to Abeine, the thugs cut through the roof of the mosque to gain access into the offices.
The Chief of Security also noted that four other computers were recovered from the ceiling. The Police also acknowledge that they have gathered fingerprints from the cime scene to aid their investigations.
It should be noted also that the mosque, the scene of crime in this scenario, is located just next to the ‘highly guarded’ Makerere University main gate.
“Our officers who were deployed at the main gate realised that there were some people who were slumbering inside the mosque offices and decided to go there,” Jude Masingano the O.C Station at Makerere Police told reporters.
Police are yet to conclude on who actually broke into the house of God and what their purpose had been.
