Following the online virtual up roar caused by the alleged police brutality that led to the demise of comrade Emmanuel Tegu, Uganda police led by spokes person Patrick Onyango has earlier today, the 6th of July 2020 come forth to provide an update on the investigations of the Makerere University 3rd year veterinary student.
Onyango explained how Tegu was a son to a police officer Sgt. Okwalinga and had been earlier diagnosed with a Bipolar mental illness. He then disclosed how the investigations indicated that he had a church appointment which he had actually informed his girlfriend about. A fact which she herself backed up.
“Police teams got a disturbance call from area councillors. The victim was then found half-naked in Makerere University by patrol teams. Tegu had became aggressive as patrol teams tried to pursue him and started pelting them with stones. CCTV footage shows him pelting officers with stones. He had no identity card on him. Tegu reached Centenary Bank MUK and tried to attack the guards there. One of the guards raised an alarm. Residents from Lumumba Hall then descended on him.” Onyango said.
Investigators having intensified their search then carried out an intelligence led operation and arrested 10 suspects in connection to the death of Tegu with all the suspects being residents of Makerere University in Kampala and are being detained at Wandegeya Police Station pending interrogation.
The suspects, whose identities are still unknown shall be disclosed after interrogation and are currently being detained on suspicion of having participated in the mob action that led to the death of the student. There are rumors of other suspects who took off after receiving information of the death of the student and are still being pursued.
