The latest info coming in indicates that Matthew Kirabo, the main suspect in the murder of 19yr-old Desire Mirembe has today appeared before a Magistrate’s court in Jinja which has sent him on remand.
A relative of Desire’s informs us that the 4th year student of Medicine at Makerere has been sent back into custody until 18th August.
Campusbee understands that the courts are currently in vacation until 15th August although normal court business is expected to re-commence on 17th August. During the court vacation, no matter is heard before court unless it has been given a certificate of urgency.
The latest developments seem to contradict statements made by some friends of the suspect who insist that he is being kept at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
Up to now, a relative of the late Mirembe maintains that Matthew made an extra-judicial confession (a confession made out of court, and not as a part of a judicial examination or investigation) stating that he is culpable for Desire’s murder but this is sharply disputed by friends and family from Matthew’s side who assert that there is no such confession.
