Just as the public thought that its time-up for Prof Wasswa Balunywa, the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) don has been endorsed to receive a new term following his excellent performance, Campus Bee has learned.
Top management at MUBS which is the institution’s council have filed a report to first lady and education minister Janet Museveni, in which they have their word indicating Balunywa’s ‘transformative’ impact.
In a letter signed by Isaac Mubarak, the chair of the governing council of the institution, the members make reference to the academic excellence, sound financial management, research and administrative practices which MUBS has garnered under Prof Balunywa’s leadership.
The recommendations came after a rigorous scrutiny of the next steer of the helm at MUBS which puts Balunywa at an advantage citing the recent medal which the president conferred onto him for his in recognition of his distinguished service to Uganda during the Labor Day celebrations in Namutumba district.
At the moment, MUBS is being steered by Prof Moses Muhwezi who was Balunywa’s deputy.
It should be noted that the council enjoys the privilege to determine who becomes the next steer of the business institution, and it’s very unlikely for Mrs Museveni to draw to a decision far from the council’s recommendations.
The final decision awaits Mrs. Museveni’s word to put a cap on whether 68-year old Balunywa is returning for another 5 years.
What the students say
A significant section of students at MUBS are confident that Prof Balunywa is the right man for the job (principle) thus pray that he is givern another term.
