Former Makerere Vice Chancellor and Presidential aspirant in the February election,  Prof  Venansious Baryamureeba has been appointed ‘Enganzi’ (Prime Minister) of the defunct Ankole Kingdom.

His Highness Asiimwe Rubambasi Ntare VI, the heir to the throne said he made the appointment following his coronation on October 26, 2016 and as required by the Kingdom’s cultural norms and rites.

Ankole Kingdom which was among the abolished by the late Dr Milton Obote was never revived by the Museveni government when other kingdoms were reinstated.

The flamboyant Baryamureeba, who is also the proprietor of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU), joins the long list of Banyankore agitating for the revival of their kingdom, just after violent clashes between an established kingdom and the government in Kasese.

Ankole, which covers about 15 counties, stretches through about 10 districts of Western Uganda.
