Kyambogo University is mourning the loss of Associate Professor James Kagaari, a respected faculty member in the Department of Psychology who passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 70.
Professor Kagaari, who served the university for over 43 years, had a remarkable journey from humble beginnings to academic excellence.
Despite facing financial hardships that forced him to temporarily drop out of school, Kagaari persevered. He initially trained as an electrical engineer, joining Uganda Technical College Kyambogo (now Kyambogo University) as a Laboratory Assistant in 1977.
In 1998, he made a pivotal career shift from engineering to psychology, earning his PhD in Psychology from Makerere University in 2011.
Throughout his career, Professor Kagaari supervised 71 master’s students and two PhD candidates, authored over 21 research publications, and established valuable international partnerships, including a Memorandum of Understanding between Kyambogo University and the University of South Africa.
At the time of his passing, he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee of Humanities at Kyambogo University and was recognized as an accomplished industrial psychologist and researcher.
Funeral services will be held at Kakumba Chapel, Kyambogo University on May 14, 2025, followed by burial in Rwikyimiro Village, Kantookye, Ruhaama in Ntungamo District on May 15, 2025.
