Mrs. Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga, the estranged wife of Kampala University founder Prof. Badru Kateregga, has broken her silence following weeks of explosive allegations made against her in the media. In a strongly worded statement, Mrs. Kateregga categorically denied accusations of violence, property theft, and wrongful occupation of the couple’s Buziga residence.
Responding to Prof. Kateregga’s public claims that she locked him out of his home, stole multiple vehicles, university documents, land titles, and cash before fleeing to Rwanda, Jolly branded the statements as “false, malicious, and defamatory.”
“During our marriage, there was never any incident of violence. On the contrary, I devoted myself fully to my husband’s wellbeing, especially during his time of ill health,” she stated.
Mrs. Kateregga also emphasized her role in supporting the growth of Kampala University while balancing the demands of motherhood. She clarified that Prof. Kateregga voluntarily left their home in September 2024 and has not returned since. She says the claim that she forcefully ejected him is entirely baseless.
“These serious allegations were thoroughly investigated by the police, and the Director of Public Prosecutions found no evidence to support them. The case was officially closed,” she noted.
In a surprising turn, Jolly revealed that following Prof. Kateregga’s departure, she and her children have been living under constant fear and surveillance, reporting being followed by unknown people on vehicles and motorcycles. She disclosed that she has since enhanced her home security through a private firm for protection.
“I began receiving threatening phone calls and death threats… I took protective measures purely to safeguard my family and our property,” she added.
Refutes Property Theft Allegations
Jolly further refuted allegations of grabbing property or relocating assets across borders. She insisted that some of the property in dispute is jointly owned, while others still remain untouched in the home.
“At no point have I tried to take what does not belong to me… My focus has always been to protect what is rightfully mine and my children’s,” she stated.
Additionally, she accused Prof. Kateregga of attempting to forcibly and illegally remove her from company records, calling the act “forged” and confirming that the case is now under police investigation.
Calls for Respect for Institutions and Rule of Law
Jolly also condemned what she described as unfounded attacks by Prof. Kateregga against state institutions such as the Directorate of CID and the DPP, noting that they are simply performing their duties fairly and professionally.
“No amount of intimidation or public smear campaigns should be allowed to interfere with the course of justice,” she remarked.
In conclusion, Mrs. Kateregga described the entire saga as a personal vendetta being waged in the media rather than the courts. She urged the public to treat Prof. Kateregga’s allegations with skepticism.
“These repeated false allegations and media attacks must be viewed for what they are… I urge the public and media to treat these claims with the caution they deserve.”
