The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University flagged off a set of items donated by the Makerere community to aid the survivors of the Bududa landslide at freedom square on Friday.
The Vice Chancellor dispatched items that were collected through an initiative started by Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) on October 15th under the umbrella of ‘Aid Bududa Community’ (ABC).
Dr. Deus Kamungu Muhwezi, the Chairpserson of MUASA explained that the items collected included among others, 180 bales of clothes, 5 bales of blankets, 5 sacks of shoes, 500 Kgs of maize floor, 1000 Kgs of beans, 5040 96 page exercise books, 4000 nice clear pens and 3500 pencils.
Dr. Deus said that the initiative was to be implemented in two phases, the benevolent stage and the scientific stage.
He also went on to thank different bodies for the support rendered to ensure the success of the project.
“I would like to appreciate Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA), National Union of Educational institutions of Uganda (NUEI), the University mosque and the students’ community for the support. The items will be delivered to Bududa by MUASA executive, members of staff, student leaders and members of Students’ community,” said Dr. Deus Kamunyu
Professor Nawangwe commended MUASA for coming up with the initiative. He mentioned that it would bring hope to the landslide victims in Bududa.
“On behalf of University council and Management, I appreciate all your efforts. We have a responsibility of not only lending a helping hand but also giving guidance. It is my pleasure to flag off this consignment of relief items to Bududa,” concluded Prof. Nawangwe.
