The Vice Chancellor Makerere University, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, said he is not in position to surrender on his duty to restore discipline at the country’s oldest and most prestigious university.
In a commununication made on Friday, Prof Nawangwe stated that a section of staff and students have been underestimating his administration but promised to discipline university staff who engage in activities that disrupt the university’s programmes and put them in their place.
According to Prof. Nawangwe, Makerere University is highly reputable across the globe but is tarnished by a culture of indiscipline, which is exhibited in endless strikes and chaos by students and staff members. He, however, adds that is he is very determined to transform the status quo of the University under his management.
Prof Nawangwe made these statements on the swearing in ceremony of the new Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) leaders.
Ever since Prof Nawangwe presumed leadership at Makerere, he has cracked a whip on several staff and students for alleged indiscipline and hooliganism.
