Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) council has appointed Prof Pelucy Kabahuma Ntambirweki as the new vice chancellor following the demise of her husband Prof John Ntambirweki in April.
Prof Kabahuma was announced as the institution’s new vice chancellor on Friday last week, being promoted from the position of deputy vice chancellor that she has held since 2019.
Dr. Nathan Kalema, chairperson UPU council said that Kabahuma’s appointment went through a thorough analysis by the board and they are confident her leadership expertise will be very significant to the development of UPU.
“Her recruitment went through a thorough analysis by the UPU board which is chaired by the retired Justice Tabaro. We are confident that her institutional knowledge of UPU and her leadership expertise as an international civil servant will be instrumental in UPU’s development,” he noted.
Prof Kabahuma said she will rely on the lessons learnt from her late husband in order to push UPU forward in her new role.
“I am honoured to be given this great opportunity to serve the might Uganda Pentecostal University. I thank God for this opportunity. In this opportunity – I will draw from all the great lessons I learnt from stewardship by the best – the late vice chancellor, who was a great administrator and legal scholar of our time,” she said.
Prof Kabahuma has previously served at the World Bank Group as a consultant, Chief Executive Officer at the Uganda Women’s Efforts to Save Orphans and a consultant with UNDP among other roles.
She holds a masters of education from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of arts and diploma in education from Makerere University.
Uganda Pentecostal University was founded by Prof Kabahuma’s deceased husband the late Prof. Ntambirweki who served as it’s vice chancellor since its inception in 2001.
First known as Grotius School of Law and Professional Studies, the institution rebranded to Uganda Pentecostal University having been licensed by National Council for Higher Education.
