Prophet Elvis Mbonye, as he calls himself, is now a slay prophet they say. The man lives just like one of those Kings of Egypt that prosecuted Jesus. You have probably watched skits around Christmas time where some guy is all acting like King Herold when he asks Jesus if he is the King of the Jews.
Recently, there was a dinner honoring the ‘prophet’ at Kololo grounds, where one “believer” was seen kiss his feet as he (the prophet) smiled away like a very content man.
“Very interesting character. He calls himself I think a prophet…” says the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Uganda Christian University (UCU), Rev. Dr. John Ssenyonyi as he described the kissing scene. The VC was speaking during the weekly prayers of the university on Tuesday afternoon where he was the preacher of the day.
“He sat there amused, and receiving all these [kisses],” reacted the VC, speaking about the scene where the believers kissed his feet.
He read out one advert that invited his believers to the honoring ceremony. “Just listen to the advert” Reve Ssenyonyi said. The comments in the brackets are the comments from the VC as he read the advert.
“Uganda Celebrates, on behalf of the people of Africa, on our own behalf, (for those who are not from Uganda, this refers to you) and on behalf of the remnants of this generation (I think this captures those from beyond Africa) scattered all over the world (you hear that). We humbly (there is a very interesting thing when someone says humble) submit our politics, economics, cultures and lives to the grace, glory and authority of Prophet Elvis Mbonye with heartfelt gratitude and honor at your feet. (And they are very good. They always quote Jesus) May the God of our lord Jesus Christ subdue the nations of the earth and their cities under the influence of your spirit of prophecy which is the testimony of Jesus for the Joy and Happiness of the earth. We love you. We Honor you. We celebrate you.” reads the advert that the VC read to the very interested congregation.
“Many of you will say that do not judge,” he added, but the VC stood at the pulpit and maintained his ground. “He is not a Christian,” he judged. “Using the name of Jesus does not make you a Christian,” Rev Ssenyonyi charged.
He went on to say that the prophet is immersed in ungodliness. “This is a man who is immersed in ungodliness. It does not matter whether you stand and preach. The man is ungodly. That is serving Satan,” he added.
The VC says that he is not in any fear to say what he said about Mbonye. “If he wants, let him go and prophecy whatever he wants.”
“How do you allow yourself to receive attribution that should only be given to God?” the UCU VC wondered. “Who is he to become the object of our prayers, a mere man!”
The VC reminded the congregation of the many people in Mbonye’s category that have come and gone.
“Who remembers Sun Moon Myung? He is no more.”
At the end of the sermon, the VC and Reverend urged the congregation to take courage and say not to ungodliness.
“When you hear persons like this, you know for sure we are speaking of a non-believer who has no power,” he concluded.
