Adellah Tumuhairwe a resident of Nyanga 11 village, Kayonza sub-county, Ntungamo district has dropped out from three medical courses from two different universities because of lack of tuition fees.
Although Adellah scored 11 aggregates and 14 points in her O and A level respectively, this didn’t help her to secure a steady source of her tuition fees at university.
In 2015, she was admitted at Kampala International University (KIU) western campus to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery which she studied for two and half years and dropped out in 2017 due to lack of tuition.
Adellah didn’t lose hope in 2018 she again applied at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) where she enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and she studied it for one and half semesters because of tuition constraints.
In August 2019, she again enrolled for a Bachelor of Nursing Science at MUST unfortunately she was unable to sit for last semester’s examinations because of the same tuition issues.
One of her friends described Adellah as one of the brightest friends she has ever had. “She has been performing extremely well with above 80% in every course unit but her financial status is the one that letting her down.” Beatrice Tushabe said.
Adellah’s cry has started getting some good responses and she has regained hope of continuing with her studies. The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health Dr Diana Atwine was touched by Adellah’s struggle and has awarded her a scholarship to study Bachelor of Anaethesia at Busitema University. The scholarship covers tuition and functional fees.
In an interview with Adellah, she thanked Dr Diana and promised not to let her down. “I would like to thank the Almighty God who connected me to Dr Diana and I promise her that I will remain focused on what I want to achieve.” Adellah told our reporter.
In her concluding remarks, she requested for any other form of assistance so that she can be able to pay for hostel where she will be residing while at Busitema University and also to facilitate her welfare.
