The youth led organisation, Reach A Hand Uganda celebrated Women’s day at Kisubi High School in Entebbe. The theme of their celebrations was “Boys for girls, Men for women”, under #BoysForGirls and their main aim was on Sustainable Development Goal five which is about Gender Equality.
The celebrations were graced by Maggie Kigozi as guest speaker and Tanzania’s song bird Vanessa Mdee as a panelist in one of the sessions.
Mama Maggie Kigozi encouraged girls to start thinking of their future, and encouraging women to stand tall this year.
Vanessa Mdee, during the panel discussion emphasised the fact that many African kids don’t have access to Information, “Children have many things in common but one thing that stands out is that they don’t know,” she went ahead to encourage girls to always be in the know, she also briefly talked about gender roles.
During the focus group discussions earlier on, many male students expressed their unsatisfactory concerns about gender equality claiming that it is a threat to the male species.
In the evening, performances from Keko, Ray Signature, Vanessa Mdee and other artists left the students yearning for more of Women’s day.
One of the students I was able to speak to ensured me that it was the best women’s day she has ever had.
