President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has passed a directive too see subjects taught at secondary level be reduced to 14 from the standard 48
In a meeting held yesterday at the State house Entebbe, the president emphasized the need to reduce the number of subjects taught in schools and urged the team to identify loopholes with a view to cut off repetition, duplication and over load of subjects
He added on that practical skills and real life knowledge linkages be emphasized in the new curriculum.
The meeting was well attended by officials from the National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC) , Education ministry officials including the First lady who doubles as the minister of education and sports as well as all Vice Chairpersons from public universities in Uganda
The minister of education and sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni commended the challenges in the education curriculum calling on all the stake holders to work as a team in ensuring that the new proposed system helps the children to perform better.
Members also agreed on reducing the time children spend at school to allow them have time to interact with their respective home environments.
