A section of Makerere University students have vowed to storm Luzira prison this Friday and ‘rescue’ the four students that were arrested and remanded earlier this week.
The arrested students are Ronald Aine, Paul Kato, Edmond Mugabe and Chrispus Wasswa, who were charged with inciting violence and conducting illegal assemblies in the city center on Monday. They on Tuesday appeared before the magistrate of Buganda road court who denied them bail and sent them to Luzira until November 17 when they will again appear before court.
According to the social media initiative that was launched yesterday, the students are planning to convene a short meeting at the University premises before heading to Luzira.
“Bring back our boys. Now is the time we Makerereans should come out and speak on how their issues are being handled. Let us not be oblivious that [if] one of us is harmed, we all indeed are harmed,” a one Patrick lamented in a statement.
He added: “Let’s wake up and free our fellows remanded at Luzira for fighting for their right to education. Let’s get our red gowns and embark on a march to Luzira this Friday.”
We will keep you posted.
