Kyambogo University students have slammed their Vice Chancellor, Prof Eli Katunguka for his repeated “incompetence” and have asked him to resign.
This comes after a backdrop of campus reopening dates queries by the major stakeholders in the Banda based university (students) going unanswered. The Vice Chancellor, following President Museveni’s address last week directing universities to open in a staggered manner, is yet to come out with guidelines of reopening Kyambogo university.
Universities like Makerere, MUBS, UCU and Ndejje have already issued their students guidelines of reopening for the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year but Kyambogo is yet to speak out on the same.
It is to be noted that Kyambogo university continuing students are yet to to complete the 2019/2020 academic year because they have never sat for end of semester examinations ever since President Museveni closed schools in March 2020 to curtail the outbreak of Covid-19. Continuing students from other universities like Makerere, MUBS, UCU and others have sat for their end of semester examinations and are going into another year of study.
Resign!
In a letter trending on social media allegedly authored by tired Kyambogo university students fraternity, Prof Katunguka has been asked to resign since he has failed to innovate in the new normal and issue campus reopening dates as guided by President Museveni and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
“Following the incompetence exercised by the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor, we the students of Kyambogo university in harmony have agreed to call for his peaceful resignation from the position of VC,” the letter reads in part.
Our repeated calls and WhatsApp messages to the Vice Chancellor seeking for a comment went unanswered by press time.
