It has been a shock for many students this morning when they heard the rumour that the Law Development Center (LDC) pre-entry results are out. However, it was not a rumour anymore after a pdf or screenshots of the results were presented to these students. They could not believe the shock of their eyes.
Out of the total 1796 students who sat for the pre-entry on 1st August, 2 weeks ago, 55 percent amounting to 982 students failed the exam after scoring lower than 50 of the pass mark. 45 percent of the students amounting to 814 scored 50 percent and above. The best overall student scored 78% with lowest scoring a paltry 13%.
The LDC pre-entry was sat by a majority of the students who had just finished their four years law course from about 8 law schools including Uganda Christian University, Kampala International University Faculty of Law; Uganda Pentecostal University Grotius School of Law, Nkumba University School of Law, Islamic University in Uganda Faculty of Law, St. Augustine International University Faculty of Law, Bishop Stuart University Faculty of Law, Busoga University Faculty of Law, and Kampala University Faculty of Law.
The students also included those who finished law school years ago, some of these included people already in the field in employment but could not practice because they did not have the LDC certificate.
The failure rate at LDC is always expected. The bar pre-entry exam has proven to be the hardest in the region with some students preferring to have their bar course from nearby East African countries such as Kenya or Rwanda where the exam is a bit simpler.
Those that have performed beyond the pass mark are very happy and some actually think they have made it in life, and are planning a number of celebrations for this “milestone.” They are now looking to make reservations of hostel rooms for the starting academic year.
