On Tuesday afternoon, city socialite Ivan Don Ssemwanga was buried with pomp….money was splashed, and champagne showered in his grave. Social media has since been awash with images of the pompous burial. The youthful MUBS economics lecturer Ramathan Ggoobi took to his timeline to give an a financial analysis of this move.
He said;
“May be what these guys should have done was to put this money into a bank account for Ivan’s kids, then write cheques in Ivan’s names and drop them into his grave. That would be a more sensible and economically rational thing for 2 reasons:
1) They wouldn’t be accused by anyone of squandering national wealth (cheques ain’t part of wealth although they are part of money in a broader sense) yet they would’ve achieved what they wanted – giving money to their fallen friend.
2) They would’ve killed 2 birds with one stone – giving the dead Ivan the money yet at the same time leaving the cash with his kids.”
