Who is Akampurira Rogers?
I am a student at MUBS. I am known as Mr Bee (smiles) and also a marketing manager at Caelum Tours and travel.
When did you join MUBS?
I always had a dream of joining MUBS despite financial issues back at home. Conditions got worse there (at home) and I decided to escape, roaming on streets of Mbarara. I then moved to Lyantonde and finally reached Kampala. I found work and was able to earn some money that enabled me join MUBS.
What kind of job was this that earned you that much?
After a full month looking for jobs, I was hired as a cleaner at Ham shopping Mall Nakivubo later joined Ham towers Makerere at Queen’s supermarket. While there, I was promoted to a supplier and finally an accountant.
I later started up a shop and a mobile money of my own and kept saving my money for University. I was glad my salary increased from 250,000 shs to 900,000 shs monthly. I quit work and joined university using my savings. That is how I managed to pay tuition.
Were you not afraid of how you will pay the next tuition having quit your job?
I thought I was going to suffer now that I was no longer working because I had used all my savings for tution and shopping requirements for university.
God helped me meet the then MUBS guild president Mr Robinson Apunyo who supported and linked me to better opportunities. I was later made the chief entertainer for the current Guild President Hon kiyega Rodgers who later added me the to the social Affairs ministry MUBS.
This opportunity has given me connections to companies like John walker ,UBL ,NBL ,MTN pulse, URA, Silk events and many media houses.
Have you been able to help students struggling like you did?
According to the chances and experience I have, I have tried hard to help other students getting internship placements and jobs to companies I am in partnership with. Furthermore, I have started giving small scale loans to students to help them pay tution and solve other financial problems.
What would you tell other students out there like you?
Don’t ever be mistaken by the tough situations you are facing or passing through. All you need is to be strong at heart and stay focused. Never under estimate the avaible job opportunity. Work hard for perfection and be creative.
