In each and every year, the world rotary club provides over 130 scholarships for the hardworking peace and development leaders across the globe to study its peace programs.
In Uganda the program had not been yet brought into consideration but the Rotary together with Makerere University have agreed to offer the program on a postgraduate certificate award.
The one year program will mainly be availed to those people who by not less than five years of experience have worked hard in order to solve peace and development related problems in Africa.
It will involve course units related to peace building, refugees and migration, conflict transformation and development. It will also have an addition of course work that will involve the practical part which will involve how to fight for human rights, the governance part and how media can be used to fight conflicts.
Olayinka Babalola, the vice president of the Rotary International board of directors said that they have been waiting for this for centuries now but since its here, rotary peace fellows will be able study and examine what really causes wars, how to create peace without violence and how to fight for human rights in Africa.
And also Barnabas Nawangwe, the vice chancellor added that Makerere being situated in the heart of great lakes region, it has experienced some of the hot conflicts in Africa which will give it a demonstrating platform on a global scale to showcase what has been done on its local environment.
The program will begin early February 2021 having a class of 20 students every year and registration will be done online.
