The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, the Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda will on 14th of September (this Friday) attend the launch ceremony of the Uganda Christian University School of Medicine (UCUSoM) where he will be the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony that is scheduled to start at 9:30 am, will be taking place at the Archbishop’s Garden in Namirembe with a couple of other guests including the Chancellor of the university, the Archbishop, The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali.
Approximately 62 students were admitted for the two courses that will be taught at the school. 53 were admitted for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBchB), whereas 9 will be doing a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), making them the pioneer students of the UCUSoM.
The university will also be fundraising for the medical school citing the fact that it is very expensive to run one, a risk the university has taken on.
UCUSoM was established in May last year under a partnership with Mengo Hospital which is the teaching school and the host of the school. Early this year, National Council for Higher Education accredited the university to teach MBchB, BDS, and Bachelor of Public Education. The curriculum of the school was approved in March 2017.
The university later announced applications for the courses to start in the academic year 2018/2019 of which the above students were admitted.
