Rwanda Blocks Students from Going to Ugandan Schools

As the ongoing Rwanda-Uganda border impasse continues, the latest we have obtained indicates that the Rwandan government has denied it’s students who study from Ugandan schools from crossing the border to access education.

According to the Uganda government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, the ongoing closure has not only affected Ugandans but it has been heavily felt by the Rwandan nationals such as hundreds of school going children.

“The impact is not openly felt in Uganda but also on the Rwanda side because many of the people buy essential goods from here. Even hundreds of school children from Rwanda cross to Uganda and go back every evening. They were not allowed to come,” Opondo said.

It should be recalled that Rwanda authorities announced last week that they have temporary closed Katuna border post to trucks and other motorists to allow construction works. They later suggested that the trucks be directed to Mirama Hills border point in Ntungamo.

Rwanda has further gone ahead to accuse Ugandan authorities of abducting and illegally detaining Rwandans in Uganda, in addition to hosting rebels with an intention of distabilising their security.
