Relationships are a thing to be cherished more so when one is going to campus, that however hasn’t been the case for Marion Namakula (not real names), a form six vacist who was gang raped in the lead of her boyfriend, a finalist at University.

According to Namakula’s friend who preferred anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, this all started like any other day in Namakula’s 18-year-old life. Namakula who was asked out by her two-year boyfriend didn’t have reason to question his intentions. Boyfriends and girlfriends go out, right? Little did she know that inside the guy she had known for almost two years lurked a rapist.

Setting off with her guy’s crew in a car to Legends, the night which started off as fun subsided when Namakula informed her boyfriend it was getting late and she needed to be dropped home. This set off a steamy brawl between the lovebirds leaving Namakula to go and wait in the car.

It wasn’t long before he joined her. Namakula’s relief at being taken home was however short-lived when the friend driving stopped it along the way. The boyfriend who had been making out with her at the back of the car became aggressive forcefully tore her clothes and started humping the already weak Namakula (who fruitlessly fought back), in the witness of his friends.

To her agitation however, her boyfriend called his two friends to have a share of her as well. Shaken with fear and confusion, the will to fight left her and they shamelessly took turns on her, one after the other.

After having their fill, Namakula was left to limp her way back home.

Brutally raped, sore, degraded and agonized, Namakula relieved her heavy heart to a friend who advised her to tell her parents and report the case to police.

The parents however thought reporting the case to police would cause shame to the family and deface her so they opted to give her counsel. Wouldn’t it look like she was asking for it? I mean, she had gone out with him in the first place. Wasn’t she the maker of her own fate? The cost of reporting seemed too expensive to pay.

Three weeks later, a check in the hospital revealed Namakula had contracted HIV and was pregnant. With child of one of her cold-blooded rapists.

Frantic, she tried to convince the parents to report to police but in vain. Her desperacy to bring her rapists to justice had grown only to have it smashed again when the parents insisted reporting the case was not an option.

Shattered, Namakula was found dead in her room on Wednesday, July 13. She had poisoned herself.

Namakula is just one of many girls that don’t report rape cases due to fear of being re-victimized by the public or law Authorities. Statistics show that only 35% of rape and sexual assault cases are reported to authorities. May her soul Rest In Peace.
