Makerere University Business School has opened for applications from students wishing to enroll for a Higher Education Certificate in Business Studies.
The course targets, among other categories, senior six leavers wishing to join university but have been restricted by their UACE performances.
The Higher Education Certificate in Business Studies (HECBS) is a one year programme that will enable successful applicants to join any Business Degree Programme.
Other beneficiaries of the certificate will include;
Foreign Qualification: The HECBS can also serve as a foundation programme for students whose foreign secondary school qualifications are not considered equivalent to UACE but permit admission into Higher Education in the foreign country.
Linkage between the vocational Qualifications and the Higher Education Qualifications. Although an enrolled Nursing Certificate is equivalent to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education, holders of the former can only join degree programme after two and a half years of an intermediate diploma in addition to years of experience while holders of UACE can enroll for degree programmes right away.
The HECBS programme has been designed to enable holders of vocational certificates join university diploma and degree programmes.
Bridging between Arts/science Divide: This HECBS orients Arts and/or Science students for purposes of admission into business undergraduate programmes.
Minimum Requirements
- Five passes at UCE or its equivalent AND UACE with at least two subsidiary passes obtained in principal subjects or its equivalent OR UACE with only one principal pass.
- Vocational Qualifications at level 2 or level 3 of the Uganda Vocational Qualifications
- An ordinary certificate from an institution recognized by NCHE.
- The HECBS is a One-year programme taught in two semesters.
MUBS has also noted that the fees payable per annum will be UGX 1,529,500/- per year for Ugandans and US$ 966 for International students.
