The first Council Chairman of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Dr. Yusuf Jasim Al-Hajji has passed on , the institution has confirmed.
According to a statement issued by the institution, Dr. Al-Hajji died on 29th March, 2020 and he was from Kuwait.
“It is with utmost sadness and our deepest sorrow that the Executive Board, Management & Staff of Islamic University in Uganda announce the passing on of our First University Council Chairman (1989-2004), Dr. Yusuf Jasim Al-Hajji who passed on, on 29th March 2020,”
“Dr. Yusuf was very passionate and deeply committed to the development of IUIU. He helped IUIU to build the health center, Vocational Training Center (VTC), and sponsored the construction of Al-Hiji Block (aka Education Block) through International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO),” reads a statement.
According to a statement, Dr. Al-Hajji also helped to build the Kibuli Muslim Hospital Nursing School and also championed many projects around the world especially during his time as President of IICO.
“The IUIU and Muslim ummah in general have lost a strong and supportive Muslim leader.
Inna lillahi wa inna ileihi raj’un. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his sacrifices, and grant him Jannah,” reads a statement.
HIS PROFILE
• Dr. Yusuf Jasim Al-Hajji was the first Council Chairman of the Islamic University in Uganda.
•Former Minister of Endowments, founder and President of the IICO – Republic of Kuwait.
• He interested most of his life in Islamic charity work and won the King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam in 2006.
• He chaired the Kuwaiti Relief Committee, which carried out relief work in affected areas in the Islamic world such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Somalia, Lebanon, Sudan and Iraq.
• He participated in the establishment and management of a number of charitable societies in Kuwait.
• He was the Vice-Chairman of the Kuwaiti Zakat House, Vice-President of the International Islamic Council for Call and Relief in Cairo, and Chairman of the Finance Committee.
