A security guard on Sunday afternoon shot dead a student at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, while surveying land that he inherited from his mother. Rudney Agaba, 25, was shot after a brief altercation with the enraged security guard. Eyewitness say while surveying the land, a rope feel over to the other side of the fence of Meru fuel station.
The deceased climbed the fence to retrieve it. The suspect, a one Tugume Kadili, quizzed the deceased on why he was climbing the wall that he was manning. An altercation ensued which led to the shooting of Agaba. The deceased was rushed to Gwatilo Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident. “The Mukono Police Division is currently investigating a shooting incident that took place on the 4th of June 2023 at approximately 1:00 PM at Meru Fuel Station in Kiwanga, Mukono District. Regrettably, this incident resulted in the tragic death of Agaba Rudeny, a 25-year-old student at UCU University and a resident of Kiwanga. Preliminary investigations suggest that a dispute arose between a private security guard identified as Tugume Kadili, aged 27, and the deceased. It is alleged that the deceased attempted to climb over a wall fence within the security guard’s assigned area, leading to an escalated situation.
In response, the security guard discharged his firearm, fatally injuring the individual. Prompt medical attention was provided, and the victim was rushed to Gwatilo Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Upon arrival at the scene, the police recovered two cartridge casings. An army green vehicle with registration number UAW403S was present at the scene, exhibiting a suspected bullet hole.
Additionally, a firearm was recovered as a potential weapon used in the shooting. Live ammunition was found near the suspected pool of blood. All these items were seized as evidence. As part of the ongoing investigation, the primary suspect, Tugume Kadili, has been apprehended and is currently detained at Seeta Police Station.
