Tragedy has once again struck Seeta High School’s Mbalala campus after Kevin Nsamba, a 21-year-old Senior Six student, was found dead in the school’s swimming pool — in yet another fatal incident that’s reigniting calls for accountability and action.
Nsamba reportedly drowned on Sunday, August 3, around 5:30 PM, shortly after a football match with fellow students. Witnesses say he entered the deep end of the swimming pool during a supervised session, but was only reported missing hours later — after students noticed his absence during a movie screening.
His body wasn’t recovered until Monday at midday, when Police responded to the school’s delayed alert and discovered his remains in the very pool where he had last been seen.
Mukono Police confirmed that they are now conducting a full-scale investigation involving regional CID detectives, forensic teams, fire and rescue units, and scene-of-crime officers. The school’s lifeguard has already been arrested, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine what exactly went wrong — and who may be responsible.
Authorities have not ruled out gross negligence, especially in light of questions surrounding:
- The lack of real-time response
- The overnight delay in notifying Police
- Whether safety protocols were followed
The body has been transferred to Mulago City Mortuary for a full postmortem examination.
This marks the third death at the Mbalala campus in less than six months:
- On February 21, 2025, Elishammah Ssesazi, 16, was found hanging in a dormitory in a suspected suicide case that triggered a Parliamentary probe.
- On March 22, Ivan Oloya, a 30-year-old teacher, was attacked and killed while walking home. Five suspects were arrested, but his family has since decried delays in the justice process.
With three deaths since February, the spotlight is now firmly on Seeta High School’s safety management, crisis handling, and internal oversight.
