Now in its 3rd edition, Reach A Hand Uganda organised the Inter Generational Dialogue [IDG] at the National Water and Sewerage Cooperation [NWSC] Resource center in Bugolobi under the theme ‘Sexuality Education; Who is Responsible?”
The IGD event was on the same day that News Papers were ablaze with a headline of Government banning Sex Education in schools. This made the topic a perfect one to be discussed. The Netherlands Ambassador to Uganda condemned the ban on Sex Education in schools.
Speaking at the event, His Excellency Henk Jan Baker explained that sexuality education is a necessity and it is something that should be taken forward.
Major Rubaramira Ruranga who was one of the main speakers blamed the high rate of HIV on ignorance, “I am HIV positive and I have lived with it for 31 years, I now have 6 children,” Major Ruranga explained, “I got HIV because I was ignorant but, HIV can be avoided by training young people on how to prevent it,” he added.
The different MPs that attended the event argued about what is right and what is not when it comes to disseminating sexuality education. While others showed disgust on the banning of Sexuality Education, some MPs sided with Ms. Janat Mukwaya arguing that it should be regulated.
