The Management of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Jinja Campus is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of two esteemed members of its academic staff within the span of a single week. The deaths of Mr. Joseph Kasango and Mr. Paul John Matyama have cast a pall over the institution, leaving colleagues, students, and the relatives in mourning.
On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Mr. Joseph Kasango, an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Marketing and Management, tragically lost his life in a road accident in Mayuge District. Known for his dedication to nurturing young minds, Mr. Kasango was a respected figure on the Jinja Campus and beyond.
The somber news of his passing was met with an outpouring of grief. He was laid to rest on December 28, 2024, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and members of the MUBS community who gathered to pay their final respects.
“Mr. Kasango was more than a lecturer; he was a mentor and friend to many,” said a colleague. “His loss is deeply felt.”
Just days after the loss of Mr. Kasango, the MUBS Jinja Campus suffered another blow with the passing of Mr. Paul John Matyama. Mr. Matyama, a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Finance, died on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Nile Hospital in Jinja District.
Mr. Matyama’s death was unexpected, leaving colleagues and students in shock. The administration has promised to provide further details regarding funeral arrangements as they become available.
The back-to-back losses have deeply impacted the MUBS Jinja Campus community, with students and faculty expressing their condolences and sharing memories of the two lecturers.
