Last week has been characterized by a tense atmosphere as the students are stressed about politics and tests. One minute the student is making noise on a track and the next minute he is doing a test.
This stress has quite caused the students to have emotional balance. On Sunday (6th March, 2022) afternoon, the students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Micro Finance from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and others from the faculty of Education had a test from one of the shared course units.
Some of the students retaking that course unit came minutes after the test had long begun and the lecturers who were supervising this test in the CTF building did not allow them to do the test for they were very late.
This angered the students but rather they decided to stay outside hoping the lecturers would reconsider. However, when they saw other students who had been doing the test come out of the rooms, the retaking students thought it was now time for handing in and that the lecturers had deliberately refused to let them do the test.
This upset the retaking students so much that they burst into the lecture rooms and beat the lecturers so badly until they were bruised to the extent of seeking medical attention. These retaking students also tore the answer sheets of the other students into pieces such that no one had what to hand in.
After that, all the students moved out of the lecture rooms shouting “Wewe Wewe” all around the campus as if they meant to start a strike.
Some of the students though were happy that all answer sheets were torn to pieces because the test was so difficult and there is a hope, they might be given another test. We pray for the quick recovery of the beaten-up lecturers.
