This morning, Kyambogo university students, at the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation lost their cool over poor sanitation including; dirty toilets, bushy grounds, leaking classrooms and lack of lighting in their classrooms.
Led by their guild representatives, the students kicked off a demonstration to the Senate building after giving a deaf ear to the dean of students Ms.Mildred Tibananuka who tried to calm them down not continue the strike- saying the administration had received a notice from the Guild President’s office and they were working on these issues.
The students who were carrying dust bins managed to make it to the senate building without any interruption from Police where they started emptying all the dust bins making it the rubbish collection point.
In the dumped rubbish were used condoms, and used menstrual pads that were collected from bins in various halls of residence. As this happened, the Police was simply standing aside as students continued expressing their disappointment in the administration.
Vice Guild President Speaks Out
This website reach out to the Vice Guild President Anyango Violah. She told Campus Bee that recently they addressed a letter to the Dean of Students requesting her immediate response to various issues including sanitation at the university, the delayed results, limited space (lecture rooms) and the faulty e-campus system that reflects wrong marks but the administration seemingly took this matter lightly.
“I think it was right for the students to demonstrate because of late, we realize it’s the only way uni can respond to our grievances as students” Anyango told Campus Bee.
