As MAK strike Day 3 is in a lay down tools and pause mode at the moment, news reaching the bee indicate some tough resolutions have been passed by the University Council during the meeting. Here are the updates;
The 60% tuition Policy is to be reinstated until further review
Students are to clear 100% tuition fees by 23rd April as requested by them but for only this semester.
Parents, guardians and sponsors have further been asked to crosscheck the tuition status of their students by the 12th week as there will be no more extensions.
Any student who will not have paid tuition by this time will be considered to have withdrawn from campus.
Students that missed tests during these strike days will be investigated and if found not to have participated, they will be granted permission to do special tests.
The government and state house sponsored students who participated in the strike, demolition and vandalisation of property are to be withdrawn from the sponsorship.
Investigations are to start and all students identified to have caused damage or vandalized university property during the strike will be made to compensate and equivalent disciplinary measures will be taken against them.
All were passed under the chairmanship of Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem.
Prior to this, MAK students had concluded today’s strike session vowing to agitate for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor Prof John Ddumba Sentamu for failing to address their issues. Now that their pleas have been heard, we hope for a peaceful and progressive environment to be restored at The prestigious Hill of The Learnt that is Makerere
