Uganda Martyrs University was over the weekend befallen by the tragic death of one of their students, Daniel Babara. On Saturday 13th September night while out on a happening spree, little did Daniel know he would be breathing his last. According to verbal evidence provided by many of the revellers around, it’s confirmed that Daniel met his death at the expense of the barrow of the gun – he was shot.
They say it all started out when a guy called Peter, son to the owner of the Bosa properties inclusive of the beach they were at, got into a heated argument trolling into a fight eventually with a guy from one of Kampala’s known gangs. Since Daniel was in one way or the other acquainted to Peter, he came in to try and stop the fight which just escalated into fracas since guys from either sides were all too drunk.
“The beach has two askaris on full time watch. One with a baton and the other always carries a gun. The baton handed askari started off towards the fighting zone so as to cool the fracas but the punch – drunken mob turned to him, beating him ferociously only leaving him with no solution but to yell for help and back up from his partner, askari with a gun. The agonising sounds of help prompted the gun askari to come through, he too tried to clam the total fiasco. He started off towards the fracas zone but he too was thumped. The askari accidentally fired his weapon whose stray bullet hit Daniel who had initially come to stop the fight,” an eye witness narrates.
Daniel Babara will be missed a lot for his social enthusiastic character, a joker, smart and outgoing. He was a great talented sports man both at his campus UMU Nkozi where he was actually the captain of UMU Flames their university basketball team and a two year successful at the Uganda Division One All Star games. Rest in Peace boss #DanielBabara08
