Uganda’s National Youth Council (NYC) has been rocked by a massive corruption storm after its top executives were interdicted over allegations of abuse of office and financial loss amounting to a staggering UGX 800 million.
In a letter dated August 15, 2025, the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) confirmed that it was working hand-in-hand with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the Police Criminal Investigations Directorate to probe the youth leaders.

Those sent packing include the National Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and several secretaries — accused of mismanaging funds meant for the Council.
The IGG said preliminary investigations had already established a prima facie case against the officials, warning that their continued stay in office would obstruct the probe.
“The Inspector General of Government may, during the course of his or her duties or as a consequence of his or her findings, make such orders and give such directions as are necessary and appropriate in the circumstances,” the letter quoted Article 230(2) of the Constitution.
The move has sparked heated reactions among young people across the country, many of whom see the NYC as a key platform for youth empowerment. Instead, critics say, it has become a hotbed of greed and political intrigue.
Student leaders told Campus Bee the scandal is a “wake-up call” for young politicians who claim to represent the voices of the youth but get lost in the trappings of power and money.
With the IGG now tightening the noose, the fate of the interdicted officials remains uncertain — and the once-vibrant National Youth Council finds itself under the harshest spotlight in years.
